Meet Mr. Mast...
"I have been teaching at Hardin Northern since 2000 and will begin my 30th year of teaching in the fall. I teach high school math including CCP Calculus, Trigonometry, and College Algebra. I grew up in Defiance, Ohio, where I graduated in 1991. I then went to Marietta College to play baseball where I earned my bachelors in mathematics and my 7-12 teaching certificate. I began my teaching career in 1995 at Parkway Middle School. I came to Hardin Northern in 2000 to teach junior high math. Over the years I have coached girls basketball, boys basketball, volleyball and baseball at different levels. In addition to teaching I am also the Athletic Director and the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach.
I have been married to Jessica Mast, who teaches third grade at HN, for 11 years. We have 4 children, 3 of which attend HN. Everett will be in 1st grade, Hayes who will be in 3rd grade, Maddux who will be in 5th grade and Carson who will be a Freshman at Liberty-Benton. We stay busy with their many school activities and athletic events but we enjoy every minute of it.
I have been blessed to spend most of my career at a school as great as Hardin Northern and I am proud to be a Polar Bear!"

Meet Mrs. Ruhlen…
“I am the Social-Emotional Learning Director and the upcoming 2024-2025 school year will mark year #4 at HN. I am a 2011 graduate of HN, a 2015 graduate from the University of Findlay (BA - Psychology), and a 2017 graduate from Wright State University (MS - Clinical Mental Health Counseling). Prior to working at HN, I worked for 5 years in a local community behavioral health agency that was specific for children, adolescents, & their families.
I married my high school sweetheart, Nathan, who teaches Kindergarten at HN. We have 2 daughters: Liza, age 5 (soon to be a Kindergarten student), and Vera, age 3 (soon to be a Pre-K student). Both girls LOVE being Polar Bears! And we are excited that we will be having our 3rd daughter the first week of September.
I enjoy reading, working out, and spending time with my kiddos. Some of our favorite family activities include playing outside and going camping.
I absolutely love my job at HN! I enjoy working with students of all ages and being a support for students & their families. I work with a great group of staff members in a community that is full of school spirit. I loved my time as an HN student and I am so excited to see my girls grow up here as well. Go Bears!”
